Since the school break has officially began for me, I thought I'd go & buy me'self a good book. I went to Poppies ( my favourite bookshop) and spent a good 3o minutes browsing and reading the synopsis of whatever book catches my curiosity.
I wished I could stay there forever! so many good books with brilliant authors, and poor me- so little time to bury my nose in them with not enough money to buy the books that I want...they can get really expensive, see. Anyway, I ended up buying this thick, war novel by Jonathan Littell. The reviews are good and the fact that I find war stories intriguing makes this the perfect investment (ha,ha,ha...). It is fiction, nevertheless, it is laced with historical facts- adding another plus factor.
I am right now, all snuggled up in our lounge with my warm duvet and light shade, ready to dive in into another world. Why prolong the excitement? Let the adventure begin!
After 4 chapters:
Hmm, I am plodding along page by page and so far themes of carnage (as expected of war novels), homosexuality and incest pervades this novel. To be honest, it leaves a bitter aftertaste in my mouth BUT I'll finish the whole book and will look forward to redemptive factors, if there's any at all (I hope so...). Crossing my fingers.
